echinacea plantEchinacea is a flower that is part of the daisy family and commonly grows in the moist and dry sections of the wooden areas in central and eastern North America. Echinacea grows up to 140 cm in height from taproots and have erect stems that are un-branched in most species.
It was first used by native Indians to treat common health problems like fever and influenza symptoms and as an antidote for venomous snakebites and other poisonous conditions. After many years of producing positive results, soon the western world also started using Echinacea as a form of herbal treatment for holistic healing.
Modern day scientific studies have shown that Echinacea can be use as a remedy to cold or flu by reducing its symptoms. Further studies also indicates that Echinacea also helps in preventing vaginal yeast infections when it is used together with medicated creams and it also helps burned skin and wounds heal faster just by applying it to the skin because of the antibacterial properties found on it.

Other medical uses of Echinacea include; helping the body stimulate its immune system by using Echinacea orally. The use of Echinacea as a cure and remedy for a number of ailments made well known anthropologists Melvin Gilmore to write in his book “Well-known Uses of Plants by Indians of the Missouri River Region” which was published in 1919, that Echinacea “is used as remedy for more ailments than any other plant”

The most common part of Echinacea used in treating ailments are its dried root and the liquid juice extract from the flower itself. It is often used in combination with vitamin C and goldenseal.
